Half-Life 2 RETX Remix developer responds to anxiety from some fans that he destroys the original game atmosphere
Half-Life 2 RTX, which is expected hot, launches its experimental show today, on March 18, and I took with its developers to discuss how to re-imagine a 20-year-old Valve masterpiece using NVIDIA RTX Remix Tech, and discussing anxiety from some fans that it negatively affects the original atmosphere.
Use the Modding Team Orbifold Studios RTX Remix team to update Half-Life 2, adding a full follower of radiology, reshape assets, and DLSS 4 with a multiple frame generation. It is free for Half-Life 2 owners, and the experimental offer now comes out on Steam.
However, not every person in the Half-Life community believes that RTX Remix is actually improving Half-Life 2. Various complaints depend on early play shots revolve around the new lighting of RTX Remix, which some said “at a” atmosphere of origin.
The famous Ravenholm area is originally lit, but some fans say RTX Remix makes Ravenholm brightly lit, reducing the effect of the horror atmosphere. One commentator said: “RAvenHOLM has moved from” Moody “to” Demo Tech Demo “.
This feeling is the pursuit of realism with the RTX Remix moves away from the original technical trend of Valve, and that the technical options that Valve have taken more than 20 years have denied the RTX Remix effect on lighting.
This point was placed on David Driver-Gomm, Share in Half-Life 2 RTX Remix in Orbifold Studios, in our interview, video version above. In his response, Driver-Gomm said that MDDERS was now absorbing the comments, and insisted that Half-Life 2 RTX was not a final product by any means, so it could be adjusted in the future.
“When you have different tools, you make different decisions and take some of the newborn and make some arts, and we must try to determine the reason for what they did,” Driver-Gomm explained.
“Did they do that because it was intended or did they do that because there was limit, right? It was done because this is what allowed the engine at that time.
So when we come and reshape zombies into modern sincerity, we use modern technologies such as “hair cards” in order to achieve a final result, we hope that you will be in the mind of the artist at that time.
“There will be a wide range of opinions. There will be a lot of people who feel that something will be done differently, and many of these comments are the things we take on board and work with organically.
“And only somewhat, only some, we all love this game, so we all have completely different opinions on how it is treated and how art should be appeared.”
Then Driver-Gomm said that Mod 'Orbifold Studios' is his interpretation of Half-Life 2, and any free MD team gets an alternative using RTX Remix technology.
“It is adjustable,” the driver started. “Remix is there, Half-Life 2 works with that because we do it. There is always room for people to put them in their own interpretations, and I feel that this is the most correct way to deal with it.
“Half-Life 2 RTX is an explanation, right? We are proud of that. We believe that we are doing a lot of research to get it beautifully. If people differ, which is their right to do so, they have the tools needed to go and make this alternative interpretation.”
Lighting is not the only complaint of some half -life fans. Others have pointed to the extra clouds of smoke arising from the fire and explosions that may obscure the player's vision. At one point in IGN's experimental gameplay, below, at 3:50, the explosion was blocked and Father Gregory was blocked from smoke, which may lead to the player missing the moment of a major story in the game.
Driver-Gomm said that the team is already looking into the smoke issue, and explained its operation there: “We have particle experts in the team and you can see as a result with things like our new fires and new explosions. In places where we have not yet been able to compose something different, we were working with the basic game materials and this is a kind of finishing in terms of ending in terms of we are smoke.
“Once again, it's a sophisticated process. Amendments are not something like one and I have done, and that's all, it is over, right? That was never modifications. It will never be modifications. It is always living and breathing. It always responds to notes. It is always decisive, does this person have a point or feel that my vision deserves to be followed, and I hope the results will win.
“It is a complex thing. We know that we are doing something that many people feel very much here with Remastering Half-Life 2, and for the main moments like those things that we are working on to make sure the original match.
“But this is an experimental offer. This is not the full final game. This is not saying that this is always the case and forever. The goal of this offer is to go, we have done a very strong foundation here. We covered a great deal of origins, we covered a great deal of the environment. We want to see what people think.”
With Half-Life 2 RTX Remix's illustration, ideas inevitably turn on whether Orbifold Studios will take over episode 1 and 2. Driver-Gomm kept his cards close to his chest, but he said if his team does not continue, he can the other.
“Episode 1 and 2 has a lot of assets that are shared with Half-Life 2, right?” He said. “Once we finish Half-Life 2, this will already be done by 70 % in Episode 1 and about 50 % for episode 2. We will have to see when we get there, but there is absolutely nothing to stop a community effort, even if we do not do it, from just capturing the place where we left and concluded the work.”
